Penabulu Foundation and Besi Berani agreed to cooperate in implementing an impact distribution program for the documentary film by Shalahuddin Siregar, titled “Pesantren” / “A Boarding School” which will be held in all Cinema XXI outlets in Indonesia. Film “Pesantren” / “A Boarding School” is a non-commercial fiction film that shows using the “Improving distribution” method, which is a method in which the screening is not for profit,
“Impact distribution”. Which is a method in the screenings are not looking for profit, ignite, society, what will be watched, anything wider. In this Assistance to Help “Impacted Distribution”, Penabulu Foundation and Besi Berani received support from PT Nusantara Sejahtera Raya in the form of facilitation for the screening of the film “Pesantren” / “A Boarding School”.
Background of the film “Pesantren” / “A Boarding School” because Indonesia is known as a country where Islam and democracy can coexist. Although religious tolerance and diversity lately began to be disturbed by the influence of conservative politics, hoaks, and religious extremism that developed rapidly. As the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, Indonesia has more than 25,000 pesantren, homes and schools for around four million students.
The film takes place at Pondok Kebun Jambu, a traditional boarding school that is unique because it is led by a woman, Nyai Masriah Amva. As one of the largest pesantren in Cirebon Regency, West Java. Traditional pesantren such as Pondok Kebun Jambu are actually one of the strongholds of the future to ward off the threat of intolerance in Indonesia.
The 105-minute film “Pesantren” / “A Boarding School” is a documentary film based on observational approach, inviting viewers to explore the lives of the inhabitants of Pondok Kebun Jambu Al-Islamy from learning activities to the daily life of the residents. This film presents a picture of Islam that is rarely seen in the mass media.
