Grant #10013‐2021

USD 261,250

October 1, 2021 –  December 31, 2024

Description

Indonesia is part of the ‘Ring of Fire’ referring to the Circum-Pacific Belt, a path along the Pacific Ocean characterized by a row of active volcanoes which is the meeting point of the world’s three tectonic plates such as the Indo-Australian Plate, the Eurasian Plate and the Pacific Plate. Its position in the Ring of Fire coupled with the large number of active volcanoes has made Indonesia have enormous potential for tectonic and volcanic disasters which can cause earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, liquefaction and various accompanying natural changes and damage: fires, landslides, water supply disruptions, etc.

In addition, on 2019 Indonesia also strike by the Covid-19 was spread to 34 provinces resulting in rapid and dramatic social and economic impacts in all sectors of livelihoods.

Based on the background above, Penabulu Foundation with the support of several US-based funders established the newly Indonesia Disaster Relief Fund (IDRF), an open-ended pooled fund that will support disaster relief and resilience in Indonesia. This initiative is designed to provide immediate and strategic support to communities affected by natural and non-natural disasters, facilitating recovery and strengthening resilience against future disasters.
