Description

Indonesia has become the first country in the Asia-Pacific region to receive funding from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) through the REDD+ Results-Based Payments (RBP) ‘Pilot’ program. Indonesia is entitled to receive a payment of USD 103.8 million for emission reduction (ER) performance results of 20.25 million tons of CO2 equivalent during the period 2014-2016, plus 2.5% as payment for non-carbon benefits.

The project aims to manage forests sustainably, rehabilitate damaged forests, and empower communities to reduce poverty. In addition, the project also focuses on improving forest governance to address deforestation and forest degradation. Funds are channeled indirectly through the Intermediary Institution (Lemtara) to beneficiaries, which cover all provinces in Indonesia. For Lampung Province, Penabulu acts as Lemtara, managing funds from RBP REDD+ GCF Output 2.

The Lampung Provincial Government, as the beneficiary of RBP REDD+ funds, utilizes this fund allocation to develop various programs aimed at improving environmental conditions while increasing community welfare. These programs include institutional strengthening through the establishment of Forest Management Units (KPH) and Forest Farmer Groups, as well as Social Forestry initiatives and the Climate Village Program (Proklim) to support emission reduction and community economic development. In addition, forest rehabilitation efforts, forest fire management, and the provision of economic incentives are expected to reduce forest degradation and improve the welfare of surrounding communities.
