Description
The program titled “Strengthening Institutional and Conservation Capacity of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Maluku and North Maluku” is a collaborative initiative between Yayasan Penabulu and Burung Indonesia. This initiative aims to enhance the role of local CSOs in conserving marine and fisheries resources through participatory approaches and the use of digital technologies.
Local CSOs possess a strong understanding of the regional context and community needs, but often face internal challenges such as weak institutional capacity, limited visibility, and restricted access to information and funding. This program addresses those challenges by developing a digital learning platform, offering thematic training, providing proposal development support, and fostering inter-organizational networks.
One of the program’s core features is the digital collective learning platform, which allows CSOs to conduct self-assessments, access relevant learning materials, and engage in knowledge-sharing networks. In-person and online training sessions will further strengthen CSOs’ technical skills in governance, finance, and strategies for sustainable small-scale fisheries and coastal resource management.
The program also facilitates the establishment of a long-term Collective Learning Network for CSOs. This network will be coordinated by local teams who will regularly monitor, organize, and sustain collaborative activities. It aims not only to improve technical capacity but also to promote solidarity and community leadership in environmental conservation.
By leveraging digital tools and grassroots collaboration, the program aspires to build a resilient, adaptive, and competitive ecosystem of civil society organizations. Strengthened capacity will serve as a vital foundation for promoting just, inclusive, and sustainable natural resource management in Wallacea, particularly across the provinces of Maluku and North Maluku.
