Description

The Biodiverse and Incusive Palm Oil Supply (BIPOSC) program is a 10-year program launched by SNV in collaboration with The Livelihoods Fund for Family Farming (L3F) and PT Musim Mas to help 2,500 oil palm smallholders on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia and supported by Mars Incorporated Danone and L’Oreal as investors. The project aims to build a transparent and deforestation-free supply chain through locally adapted agroforestry models, regenerative agriculture, and biodiversity enhancement. The project will help regenerate 8,000 hectares of palm farms in degrading land areas while restoring 3,500 hectares of local biodiversity over 10 years. One of the activities that will be implement by the project to support the replanting process is preparing the provision of seed funding which will be given to several groups of women farmers who will be implemented jointly.

These programs are expected to become the additional income that would replace the lost income from oil palm plantations due to the replanting process. To assist the group, there are several activities required before the mentoring or coaching process, including the preparation for seed funding management, management, mapping the potential products, as well as market access, which would need an expert in that component. Penabulu Foundation as a consultant will help prepare the seed funding management process that would be given to the farmers who has entered the phase of replanting proses, by mapping the potential of the product, access to the market, access to funding, and existing interventions from the government and local foundations. Creating income-generating activity (IGA) as an additional income during the replanting process, as well as finding the scheme form of seed funding management to expand the area of seed funding utilization, which of course is supported by expertise and experiences in managing and assisting farmers groups until they could build their business independently.
