Description

The socio-political upheaval across Indonesia in late August 2025 revealed the rapidly shrinking civic space and heightened tension between civil society and the State. CSOs are facing increasing challenges in maintaining their relevance and connection with their constituencies amid political pressure, digital disinformation, and growing restrictions on public expression.

This project is designed to strengthen CSO resilience through collective reflection, inter-regional consolidation, and strategic mapping of the civic space condition. Penabulu Foundation, as the host of National Secretariat of the Civic Engagement Alliance (CEA), will lead the facilitation and coordination of the entire initiative.

The project will convene three CSO consolidation meetings in Yogyakarta (DIY), West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), and Papua. Each two-day meeting will involve 20–25 local organizations, ensuring participation from women, youth, and vulnerable groups.

The activities include thematic discussions, mapping of strategic issues and key actors, and collaborative action planning to strengthen coordination and solidarity among civil society movements across regions.

The project will conclude with regional synthesis and a collaborative CEA action plan, supporting efforts to build a safer, inclusive, and sustainable civic space in Indonesia.
