Hydrometeorological Disaster Response in Aceh Province, Indonesia

The Hydrometeorological Disaster Response in Aceh Province, Indonesia project is part of broader efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness and humanitarian response to hydrometeorological hazards in Indonesia. The project aims to support flood-affected communities through anticipatory and timely interventions that prioritize the protection of vulnerable groups while restoring access to essential services and strengthening community resilience.

Through this initiative, Penabulu works with local partners to strengthen community capacity and stakeholder coordination in delivering rapid, inclusive, and accountable humanitarian assistance. The project focuses on restoring access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) services, providing protection and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), and addressing emergency food security needs for disaster-affected households.

The project also promotes community participation throughout the recovery process by engaging local governments, community organizations, volunteers, and women’s groups in environmental restoration, humanitarian assistance, and community protection activities. This collaborative approach ensures that emergency response contributes not only to immediate recovery but also to strengthening long-term community resilience against future disasters.

In addition, the project integrates monitoring, evaluation, learning, and Community Feedback Mechanisms to ensure that humanitarian interventions are transparent, accountable, needs-based, and responsive to beneficiary feedback. These mechanisms contribute to continuous improvement in humanitarian programming while generating valuable lessons for future disaster response initiatives.

Ultimately, the project seeks to strengthen community resilience to hydrometeorological disasters by improving access to essential services, protecting vulnerable populations, enhancing local capacities, and fostering multi-stakeholder collaboration in delivering effective, inclusive, and sustainable humanitarian action. The initiative reflects Penabulu’s commitment to supporting disaster-resilient and climate-resilient communities across Indonesia.
