Description
The Penabulu Foundation is collaborating with Rainforest Alliance, conducted the study on environmental and socio-economic dynamics to identify actual and potential impacts and opportunities for the coffee supply chain and the impact analysis and recommendations on the coffee value chain to reduce deforestation and improve coffee farmers’ livelihoods in the Aceh Tengah and Tanggamus districts, because over the past decade the global coffee consumption has increased by approximately 1.5% per year or 15.87%. This has led to the expansion of coffee plantations in traditional coffee-producing regions including Indonesia. This not only leads to deforestation, but also contributes to biodiversity loss, causing negative impacts on the environment and the ecosystem. These actions will threaten the sustainability of the ecosystem and farmers’ economies and increase the risk of perpetuating poverty cycles. It is important to implement sustainable coffee farming practices and develop inclusive coffee supply chains that support smallholders and protect the environment.
Program Objectives
- To conduct a study on the environmental and socio-economic dynamics in Aceh Tengah and Tanggamus Districts to assess the actual and potential impacts and opportunities for the coffee supply chain.
- To conduct an impact analysis and provide recommendations on the coffee value chain to decrease deforestation and enhance the livelihoods of coffee farmers in the Aceh Tengah and Tanggamus districts.
With the expected result is a comprehensive report that includes the findings of the study on environmental and socio-economic dynamics in Aceh Tengah and Tanggamus districts and the impact analysis and recommendations on the coffee value chain to reduce deforestation and improve the livelihoods of coffee farmers.
