Description
In late November 2025, intense monsoon rainfall triggered severe flooding and landslides across Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. The disaster affected more than 1.2 million people, with the humanitarian impact continuing to escalate. As of 14 December, at least 1,016 fatalities were recorded, 212 people were missing, and over 7,600 individuals were injured. Damage was reported in 52 regencies and cities, with an estimated 158,000 homes destroyed or damaged.
Penabulu is implementing a emergency response project aimed at addressing the urgent humanitarian needs of households severely affected by the disaster. The response prioritizes the most vulnerable families through a transparent and inclusive targeting approach that combines the severity of disaster impact with household-level vulnerability.
The relief item provided includes hygiene kit, emergency shelter kit, emergency food items to meet immediate needs and support the restoration of basic living conditions, safety, and dignity. The project will be implemented in 4 regencies/cities across Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, in coordination with Oxfam Hong Kong and other humanitarian actors, to mitigate the risk of duplication of assistance. Implementation will take place over 12 weeks, covering needs assessments, procurement, beneficiary verification, transportation, distribution, monitoring, and evaluation. The relief project will jointly implemented with four local partner organizations.
