Income Generating Activity (IGA) – Biodiverse and Inclusive Palm Oil Supply Chain (BIPOCS) Project

Description

The Income Generating Activity (IGA) Project is part of the Biodiverse and Inclusive Palm Oil Supply Chain (BIPOCS) initiative, which aims to strengthen the economic resilience of independent oil palm smallholders during the replanting period by developing sustainable alternative livelihood opportunities. The project contributes to a more inclusive and deforestation-free palm oil supply chain while improving household incomes through locally driven enterprise development and community-based economic empowerment.

As the technical implementing partner, Penabulu Foundation provides comprehensive technical assistance to farmer groups, women’s groups, youth groups, and cooperatives in Labuhanbatu District, North Sumatra. The project strengthens institutional capacity, financial literacy, business planning, seed funding management, cooperative governance, market access, product diversification, and enterprise development, focusing on cattle fattening, biofloc catfish farming, and other locally viable commodities identified through market assessments.

The project also supports the expansion of the IGA model into new intervention areas through market surveys, commodity assessments, business incubation, and intensive field mentoring. By combining participatory approaches, evidence-based planning, and continuous technical assistance, the project aims to establish sustainable local enterprises, strengthen cooperative-led revolving fund systems, increase the economic participation of women and youth, and improve the long-term resilience of smallholder farming communities.

This program is supported by SNV Netherlands Development Organisation for the period of November 2025 – October 2026 (12 months), with total funding of IDR 1,000,000,000.
